A Review of English/Spanish Cognates and False Cognates
This paper was written for E514 Phonology and Morphology. I chose to investigate this topic because cognates are commonly included in TESL/TEFL curricula, yet often false cognates are very difficult for ELLs. English and Spanish cognates were specifically targeted because the most common second language spoken within our Northern Colorado community is Spanish. In addition to increasing my knowledge on cognates and false cognates, I can now assist my students by increasing their awareness of the prominence of false cognates in English.
