Conversation Partner Volunteer
The Conversation Partner program is a volunteer program at INTO CSU's Academic English Program (AEP). Conversation Partners give Listening/Speaking students essential linguistic and cultural practice interacting with native English speakers. They volunteer for one hour and a half class once per week. I was a Conversation Partner from Fall 2012 to Fall 2013.
Being a Conversation Partner was a great opportunity to connect with and learn more about a variety of diverse people. Conversation Partners also was helpful as a TESL/TEFL teacher because I was able to observe the language usage of English language learners from different countries. Learning about the theories of second language acquisition and simultaneously being able to observe it hands-on through interacting with learners was very valuable to me.
Below is a reflection on my participation in the Conversation Partner program. The reflection focuses on the lower advanced Listening/Speaking 300 level because the majority of my time was spent working with this level.
